October 2024, its autumn and mushrooms are sprouting everywhere from the ground in the forest. The Berlin regional group took the opportunity to explore the diversity and beauty of these lifeforms on a beautiful day in nearby Wandlitz.

After a short introduction, we went into the forest together with mushroom expert Dana Lafuente from the ‘Pilzschule Brandenburg’ and soon everyone was busy looking for all kinds of mushrooms to see which species grow in the forest in this region. From purple ‘deceiver’ to garlic-smelling mushrooms to fluorescent sulfur tuft, additionally to such characteristics the importance of mushrooms for the forest was explained during the tour. Of course, at some point edible mushrooms were found for the pan and it was explained which mushrooms were poisonous and which ones could be eaten. The tour finished with a song and a poem about mushrooms and the group visited afterwards the Wandlitzer Brauhaus for good food and beer. The excursion was well received and, in addition to the learning effect, there were many conversations and exchanges among the participants.
