The story of “Un ballo in maschera,” Giuseppe Verdi’s opera in three acts which premiered in Rome in 1859, is based on Eugène Scribe’s drama “Gustave III ou Le bal masqué,” which in turn is based on a true historical event, the assassination of the Swedish king Gustav III. The RG Munich is looking forward to an exciting production of this opera which looks back on an eventful history.
